Matthew represented Norfolk Youth Cricket from the age of nine, specialising in leg spin bowling. He captained his age group who reached the ECB National finals at u14 and u15 age group. He was selected to captain the London and East u15 Regional squad for the highly prestigious Bunbury Festival. Selection for the England Development Programme led to tours to South Africa and Sri Lanka and a match played at Lords. He joined Northants CCC Academy at age fourteen and played his first of over thirty 2nd XI matches aged just fifteen. 

 

After sixth form at Rugby School he travelled to Australia, playing near Melbourne for a season. He was part of the successful Swardeston CC team who won the 2016 ECB National Club T20 and subsequently was selected to play for Norfolk CCC. He also achieved local fame by bowling a wicket maiden in the last over of a match, enabling Swardeston to qualify for the final of the 2016 ECB Royal London Club Championships.  

 

Matthew is an ECB Level 2 Cricket coach with first aid, safeguarding and DBS certificates.
